DAY 2

Hiking, Traditional Games and Participation

The second day of Mountain Games brings together hiking, school and cultural activities, alongside a thematic forum and a participatory youth workshop across different parts of Troodos. Three hiking experiences – the Madari–Pitsilia route, the Caledonia Waterfalls Nature Trail and the Artemis Trail – offer different ways to discover the mountain landscape through physical activity.

At Apeiteio Junior High School in Agros, the inter-school Elevate Your Life – Active Youth – Healthy Living – Your Way programme combines outdoor sports activities, competitive orienteering and traditional games, including the traditional stone-throwing event. Actress Maria Papakosta and stand-up comedian Zacharias Zannettou open the programme with an interactive session for children and teenagers, while the Youth Board of Cyprus contributes team games.

A central part of the school programme is the experiential culinary workshop “Mountain Breakfast: Honey, Grapes & Energy”, curated by Evi Chioti. Chef Pâtissier Eleni Georgiou prepares creative, healthy recipes together with the children, while nutritionist Lazaros Lazarou connects the workshop with the nutritional value of a healthy, balanced breakfast.

At the Rodon Hotel in Agros, the Thematic Forum “Mountain Regions, Special-Interest Tourism and Community Resilience” takes place under the patronage of the Deputy Minister of Tourism. Later that afternoon, at the same venue, the MountMed Institute and the Youth Board of Cyprus co-organise the participatory workshop “Youth, Hiking, Healthy Lifestyles and Participation in Mountain Areas”, bringing together young people from Troodos and European organisations to explore hiking, Sport for All, volunteering, non-formal education and active youth participation in the life of mountain communities.

The cultural strand continues with Let’s Dance 4 at the “Solea” Multipurpose Centre in Evrychou and the Intercultural Dance Workshops at the “Giorgos Seferis” Cultural Centre in Platres, where members of the European delegations present and teach dances from their countries.
